Branch Library Mechanical Engineering
Information Hub
The University Library is the information
hub for all departments and schools of the
Technical University of Munich. 1.97 mil-
lion printed and electronic media titles and
various consultation services, workshops
and tutorials help students, researchers,
lecturers and staff in their daily work.
To enrich support, improvements in the
Branch Library were made und new
courses and services established.
Modern Learning Environment
To create a pleasant study environment,
the University Library has initiated a bright
and welcoming lounge area at the Branch
Library Mechanical Engineering. Comfort-
able seating and a modern lighting system
invite visitors to stay and enjoy reading.
The lights are equipped with integrated
sockets and react to movement. Next to
the lounge area, visitors can find news
papers, magazines and current journals.
Make yourself at home!
Interested in Joining our Team?
Our librarians assist students, scientists,
lecturers and staff in retrieving information,
literature and using further services. They
handle complex requests, as well as
providing service at the circulation desk.
In previous years, the number of work
desks was increased, and opening hours
at the Branch Library Mechanical Engi-
neering extended. The University Library
now employs an average of ten students
to support the librarians at the circulation
desk of the Branch Library. We offer
students the opportunity to work flexible
hours as part of a friendly, professional
team.
Conveying Knowledge and
Information Competence
Researchers, students and other
interested library users receive regular
training and advice on citation, publication
processes, research strategies, bibliomet-
rics and much more. Among other things,
the University Library has established
two embedded library courses – one
at the Institute for Machine Tools and
Industrial Management and a second one
at the Centre for Social Competence and
Management Training. After successful
pilot courses, librarians trained a total
of about 1,000 students on information
competence in this year’s embedded
courses. The University Library also offers
tailor-made courses to other institutes and
chairs of the department on request.
